Pet Welfare Questions

What is Petland doing to promote responsible pet ownership and fight pet overpopulation?

The American Veterinary Medical Association, www.avma.org, has endorsed early spay-neuter surgical procedures on pets between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks. And Petland is an advocate of early spaying and neutering, making every attempt to work with progressive veterinarians on this issue.

Many Petland stores offer some puppies and kittens for adoption that already have been spayed and neutered. Some Petland operators are offering free spaying and neutering for all Petland puppies and kittens. Some Petland operators offer deeply discounted spay-neuter certificates. And other Petland operators make appointments at the point of pet adoption for spaying and neutering with their local veterinarian. Depending on local veterinary support, Petland store operators make the highest commitment to spaying and neutering in the communities they serve.

Petland’s Spay-Neuter program focuses on educating those who adopt Petland PetsTM about the importance of being part of the solution -- stopping pet overpopulation through responsible pet care. Petland pet counselors use in-store brochures, informational handouts and posters to help carry the message forward on spaying and neutering.
