Petland’s Enhanced Protection Program is a strategic partnership between AKC CAR^SM and helpmefindMYPET^TM. It combines a national microchip database registry with an Amber Alert-type service, providing an enhanced layer of protection for pets and their families.

AKC Car
AKC CAR^SM is the nation's largest not-for-profit pet recovery service. Of the more than 3.5 million pets enrolled in AKC CAR^SM, more than 320,000 have been reunited with their owners. Most Petland® pets should be implanted with an AKC CAR^SM ID System^TM microchip for identification and recovery in case he or she is ever lost.

At the time of adoption, microchipped Petland® pets will be simultaneously enrolled into AKC CAR^SM along with helpmefindMYPET^TM to help make a recover possible. If a lost pet is brought to an animal shelter or veterinary clinic without a tag, the staff can read the microchip number using a scanner. Anyone who finds an enrolled pet can call AKC CAR's^SM recovery hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Once AKC CAR^SM is alerted, one of their recovery coordinators will contact the pet owner right away.

In a few weeks after adoption, you will receive a confirmation letter that will include your pets AKC CAR^SM collar tag. This will serve as verification that your pet is enrolled in AKC CAR's^SM
recovery service.

Help Me Find My Pet
HelpmefindMYPET^TM is the nation's first "Amber Alert-type”"program for pets. Its mission is "To help find lost pets by creating local communities of pet owners and pet professionals who will come to the aid of any member in need. At time of adoption, microchipped Petland® pets will be simultaneously enrolled into helpmefindMYPET^TM along with AKC CAR^SM to help make a recovery possible. If your Petland® pet is ever lost or stolen, simply go to www.helpmefindmypet.com or call a toll-free number to initiate the alert. An email alert and a poster of your pet will be sent to every participating member, shelter group, veterinary hospital, animal control office and pet-related business in a 50-mile radius of where the pet was last seen. Any information on lost pets is sent directly to helpmefindMYPET^TM. The owner is then contacted to recover the pet.
