Petland in Iowa City donates thousands of dollars worth of merchandise to local animal shelters to assist with flood relief efforts; continues in-store donation program

Iowa City, Iowa, June 20, 2008 – The Petland store in Iowa City, Iowa, continues to offer all Petland customers a 20-percent discount on in-store merchandise purchased to assist three local animal shelters in need of dire assistance after the recent flooding – the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center (which has relocated to the Johnson County 4-H Fairgrounds), the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter (which has relocated to the Kirkwood Community College campus) and the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

To make it easy for members of the community, Petland of Iowa City will coordinate delivery to the shelters of all monetary and purchased donations. The donation program will continue indefinitely, as long as support is needed.

The in-store program has been a tremendous success thus far, with thousands of dollars worth of cash and products already donated to the shelters. Petland of Iowa City thanks the entire community for its generosity during this time of need.

Petland of Iowa City has received an outpouring of support from numerous pet product manufacturers for donations of food and supplies. One supplier, Coastal Pet Products, has donated 600 boxes to the Cedar Rapids Animal Shelter which will be used to help transport animals that had to be evacuated due to the flood.

In addition, the staff of the Petland store in Iowa City is posting flyers at local businesses in the surrounding communities to let people know of the donation program at the Petland store. Petland Iowa City store operators Ron and Wendy Solsrud have volunteered many hours of their time to help with flood relief efforts, including sandbagging and helping local pet stores faced with crisis situations. Petland Iowa City Pet Counselors also are volunteering their time walking pets at local animal shelters.

Petland, Inc., headquartered in Chillicothe, Ohio, is sending several boxes of supplies to the Petland store in Iowa City to be distributed amongst area animal shelters in need of support.
