Our Birds

At Petland Arlington, you will find a wide variety of birds to suit many people. We carry a large assortment of parrots, cockatiels, parakeets and canaries. With so many breeds available, our dedicated and experienced staff are able to help you choose the right bird for you and your family.

We purchase our birds from reputable breeders with closed aviaries. All of our parrots are domestic raised, are close banded and come with a hatch certificate and a health warranty.

We receive our parrots and cockatiels at five to eight weeks old and hand feed them a specially formulated baby bird food until they are weened and eating on their own. While hand feeding, each bird's weight is closely monitored to ensure they are growing properly. Birds that are hand feeding may be purchased before they are weened, and when they are eating on their own, they can then go home with you.

A healthy diet is very important for all our birds. Everyone gets fruits and/or vegetables every day. We feed three different kinds of bird pellets to all our parrots as their main diet and supplement this with a high quality seed. The cockatiels, parakeets and canaries eat a high quality seed and bird pellets as their main diet. All of our birds receive dried fruit, dried vegetables, nuts and cooked pasta mixes as treats.

All the birds have lots of toys in their cages and their play areas. They have their toys rotated often so as not to get bored, to keep them mentally stimulated and keep those beaks and feet busy!

We play with our birds every day to keep them sweet and tame. Our customers help with their socialization too! We have open topped petters for the birds to play in during the day. This lets our customers easily pick up and play with the birds, and helps with each birds socialization skills.

We have a very nice selection of books, bird toys, foods, cages and supplies for your avian companion. Our trained pet counselors will be able to help you get the appropriate sized cages, toys and food for your new bird, as well as help you with any questions you might have.
