RUSSELL, Ky. (WSAZ) -- WSAZ.com's Randy Yohe introduces us to a Hometown Hero who found out a little dog may also be a boy's best friend.
Ian Swanson's family knew that getting a dog would improve their son's medical condition. An exhaustive pet search settled in on the perfect breed for Ian's needs -- a Yorkie-poo named Zeke.
The dog's price tag was $999 dollars on sale. But when learning the Swansons couldn't afford this dog, Dwight Burk simply gave Zeke to Ian, along with everything needed to care for and keep a therapy dog
Such an act of goodwill earned Dwight the honor as our latest WSAZ.com Hometown Hero.
"Helping Ian, it was the right ting to do," he said.
Zeke has helped Ian walk without using his walker and better communicate his feelings with his family.
Dwight's generosity didn't end with Ian and Zeke. Ian's mother Susan Swanson asked Dwight to bring some brochures to Reilly's Rally, a resource forum for families with special needs children. Dwight brought the brochures and more.
