Homeless pets finding families at Petland Pensacola

(PENSACOLA, Florida, January 4, 2011) – The Petland store in Pensacola Square is announcing a new partnership and the news is good for homeless cats and kittens in the Pensacola area. Petland recently began a partnership with Kirkham Kattery Rescue, operated by Allen Kirkham. Allen rescues cats and kittens from overwhelmed shelters and rescue agencies and helps to find them safe and loving homes.

“In order to assist Allen in helping more cats and kittens we have provided store space and supplies for the last year,” said Ryan Hamel, General Manager of Petland Pensacola.

Allen brings available cats and kittens each Saturday and Sunday to the Petland store on North Davis Highway from 12 – 5 p.m. At first, Allen and Petland Pensacola averaged 3-6 adoptions per weekend. However, the rescue has seen a huge increase in adoptions with more than 24 adoptions in the last 7 days.

Overall, the partnership between Kirkham and Petland sent home 221 cats and kittens in 2010. “This partnership has been extremely successful,” says Hamel. “We hope to expand the relationship and increase our number of adoptions in 2011”.

Shelter administrators, pet rescue representatives or any individual with knowledge of a litter of healthy homeless puppies or kittens should contact their local Petland store. A manager there can explain local Adopt-A-Pet program procedures.

“Placing homeless pets is a valuable service to our community. It is one of many community service programs at Petland aimed at enhancing the human-animal bond,” said Hamel.

Petland always has been committed to doing its part to help find families for healthy, homeless pets. More information on Petland and its community service programs can be found at
