We will get right to it… NO! Petland does NOT work with or buy puppies from puppy mills.



But before we go any further, what is a puppy mill?

Puppy mills are breeding facilities that are unlicensed, unregulated and do not put animal welfare first. They fly under the radar and are the pictures you see on commercials asking for your donation. We do not support these unethical breeders.

Petland purchases from USDA-licensed breeders, who are often also licensed; inspected at the state level. We require veterinarian-documented socialization and exercise plans, and the breeders must follow veterinarian protocols for skin, coat, nail and dental hygiene.

At Petland, we visit our breeders, we attend state breeder conferences, and we host breeder symposiums to support high standards of care.

We also support and buy from Purdue University’s Canine Care Certified breeders, who complete a rigorous service-based certification program for larger kennels and includes detail to the dog’s physical, genetic and behavioral developments.
