Petland Charities Supports American Humane Society’s Efforts with Ongoing California Wildfire Relief

< All Topics

LOS ANGELES, CA – Petland Charities is proud to support American Humane Society’s heroic efforts to rescue, care for, and protect animals displaced by the recent Los Angeles area wildfires. To assist American Humane Society’s work, Petland Charities has donated $6,000, which was boosted to a $12,000 donation through the organization’s “dollar-for-dollar matching” program.

“The wildfires that rushed through parts of Los Angeles were like nothing most of us have ever seen,” said Maria Smith, Interim Executive Director, Petland Charities. “For nearly every home destroyed by the wildfires, there is likely a family pet also affected. Petland Charities’ mission includes ending pet homelessness and creating special bonds between animals and people, and American Humane Society is doing this work daily. It is our pleasure to offer this initial support for their heroic work.”

According to Tracy Jones, American Humane Society’s Associate Vice President of Partnerships, the non-profit organization continues to work in the field supporting animal search and rescue efforts and leaving nourishment and water in areas where pets were unable to evacuate. Jones said, “With the help of volunteers, our partners, and donors, American Humane Society has transported more than 300 long-term shelter animals to other areas of the country, making room in LA shelters for pets that have become separated from their families. Keeping these displaced pets local helps to increase their chances of reunification.” In partnership with volunteer veterinarians in its network, American Humane Society is also providing free vaccines and medication to pets in need at a stand-alone wellness clinic and in pop-up clinics within American Red Cross shelters.

American Humane Society’s Rescue Team continues to support people and pets across Los Angeles and stands ready to deliver relief to any area of the country impacted by a natural disaster. If you would like to support an organization that is proven to use donated funds in the best interest of animals, please learn more about how American Humane Society is assisting with the care and safety of animals affected by the California wildfires at americanhumane.org.
