Petland, Inc. awards outstanding store operators at Petland’s 47th anniversary Trade Show
(Chillicothe, Ohio, August 1, 2014) – Petland’s 47th anniversary was recently celebrated at it’s annual Awards Banquet and Trade Show held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV.
President and CEO Joe Watson opened the ceremonies reporting that new stores had opened in South Carolina, Connecticut and Brazil and were expected to open in El Salvador before the end of the year. Same store sales growth has grown an average of 12.6% per month, he noted, and community service efforts had surged with a $54,000 donation to St. Jude and more than 17 wishes fulfilled through Make A Wish of American in the last six months. Watson also announced the launch of the Pets in the Classroom program.
Awards given include Domestic Store of the Year, International Store of the Year, Nicholas Alexander Award, Vanguard Award and Presidential Awards.
Two former franchisees were also honored with Distinguished Franchisee Awards, which recognize long-term franchisees who have made a specific impact on the Petland culture. Robin and David Visniski, former operators of Petland Tyler, TX and Kevin and Judy Chapen, former operators of PetlandKamloops in British Columbia, Canada received the 2014 Distinguished Franchisee designation.
Store of the Year awards are based on a number of business operational factors including excellence in store presentation, customer service and animal husbandry. Domestic Store of the Year nominees included Petland Monroeville, PA, operated by Ted and Kurt Karcher; Petland Henderson, NV operated by Greg Bearden; Petland Kennesaw, GA, operated by Lamar and Debbie Parker and Brad Parker; and Petland Pembroke Pines, FL, operated by Simon Rozenberg. The Domestic Store of the Year winner was Petland Pensacola, FL operated by JR and Jennifer Harper.
The International Store of the Year winner was Petland Matsudo City, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the Sanyei Corporation.
The Nicholas Alexander Award is presented annually to Petland franchisees that have shown the most dedication to improvement in the areas of store management, animal husbandry and customerservice. This year’s recipients include Petland Las Vegas Boca Park, Nevada operated by Karin and Brad Logan; Petland Wichita, KS, operated by Colleen and Brad Bockus, Petland Lewis Center, OH, operated by Tom and Patty Donovan and John Donovan, and Petland Boerne, TX, operated by Richard and Paula Horner.
The Vanguard Award is presented to Petland’s best first-year operators. This award can be won by a newly developed Petland store or won by mature store under the ownership of a newfranchisee. This year’s recipients include Petland Tyler, Texas operated by Samit Darne; and Petland Summerville, operated by Janet and Mike Shaub.
Finally, Presidential Awards are given to outstanding employees in each management department of the Petland store. The 2014 recipients are Maria Grimes, Petland Dallas Frisco, TX, Pet Counselor of the Year; Rodney Leach, Petland Dallas Preston, TX, Kennel Manager of the Year; Coy Garton, Petland Iowa City, Iowa, Inventory Control Manager of the Year; and Beth Nauer, Petland Columbus Carriage Place, Ohio, Manager of the Year.
